Day 67 Skagway

After getting to Skagway yesterday we didn't have a lot of time to see this great little town before taking our train ride, so today we walked the town, did a little shopping and just had a over all nice day. The weather was so nice, one of the warmest we have had. They have really done a great job restoring this town to its original glory. The population is a little over 1000, but during the summer this is a major port for cruise ships. On average 4 a day come into port here. During this time the town sees about 8000 people a day. I can attest to that as i have witnessed the masses racing into town to grab souvenirs. Our campsite is between town and the harbor and you know exactly when a ship has rolled in.  No doubt this town would not be thriving so without the tourist particularly, the cruisers. Here are a few pics from around town. Although, I am ready to head back to lower 48, I am sad to be leaving our beautiful and wild Alaska. It has sure been an adventure I won't forget.

We will be heading back into Canada tomorrow to begin our trip back into lower 48. It will probably take us a couple weeks to travel back the 1500+ miles. Then we start our trek back across country.
