Day 61 Happy Canada Day!!

Until yesterday we didnt realize July 1 is a holiday, much like our 4th of July. We really lucked up being in this wonderful historic town.  Everyone from near and far were in town to celebrate. Just as we got in town a parade kicked off!!  Wow it was so much fun.  Everybody was excited and kids were running out to get thrown candy and people dressed in period clothing made you feel like you had stepped by into the gold rush era. Because of the holiday we got to tour a boat for free. We had a great day walking around the town a visiting old and beautifully restored buildings. This is probably the best restored city I have seen this size. Even new buildings are build to look old. There is so much history in the area due to the gold rush in late 1890's. This city almost disappeared by the 1960's getting down to a few hundred people (late 1890's had 30,000) it is now up around 4000 and appears to be thriving. Here are pics from today. Happy Canada Day!

One of several downtown streets
Girls playing violins in period attire. They were so sweet.

All the streets are dirt and sidewalks are wooden. We both said we felt like we were in scene from Gunsmoke.

Lots of great hotels and all seemed full

This all one hotel that looks like old buildings. Not sure if new or restored.

Another inn

Nice museum about the area and part of the upstairs is still used for circuit court when not used part of museum

Courtroom evidently not much goes on in Circuit court only have court 3 or 4 days every few months!

Classroom part of catholic church. I loved the queen's picture!

This city was well known for its brothels this is its most famous one that is now a casino with nightly shows.
