Today we left Chicken AK heading back to the Yukon Territory in Canada. It was only a little over a hundred miles but took us about 7 hrs to drive. The only road and a major road is all dirt and winds across large high mountains. The highway is called Top of the World highway. It has beautiful scenery but not one business the entire route. You cross the border at the farthest northern border crossing in North America. It is only open around 5 months a year. As we arrived near Dawson City the road totally ended at the Yukon River. The only way to continue was to ride a ferry. They load everything on the ferry, cars, trucks, bicycles, and heavy equipment etc. We were not aware July 1 was a holiday so we had a little difficulty finding a campsite. But we got settled and anxious to explore this quaint town. Here are todays pics.
That is the town of Chicken as we were driving out.
This the only road out, needless to say we were mud covered. There were bicyclists and motorcycles on this too.
