Day seven

We left Texas heading into New Mexico, we noticed the elevation climbing and getting colder and windy.  It was really awesome watching the landscape change as we traveled.  We started seeing canyons and prairies.  As you climbed peaks it seemed you could see forever.

We decided to stay in a small town named Tucumcari, this is a historic town situated on the original Route 66.  They have tried to restore many of the old motor lodges as they were called and gas stations.  Sadly, many have not survived.  This was a great place to visit and hope it sees better times in the future.  The people were all so friendly, but overall there appeared to be a lot of poverty.  It's not just in eastern KY.  Here are a few pics around town, they do not do the town justice.  If you pass by be sure pass thru this town, you can get off one exit and get back on interstate on the other end, or do like we did and spend the night.  The Cactus RV campground was on the site of an old motor lodge!

As you can see, there is plenty of snow on the ground.  This is what is left of the snow that fell the day after Christmas!  On to Albuquerque tomorrow.

    1. The motorhome next to us got stuck, Carvel was so proud when we pulled right out. He looked over and said we never spinned a tire.
